HOW'S COLLEGE DESU? @w@
Oct. 3rd, 2009 01:31 pmLoL if you get that reference you're a prick. *Shot*
ANYWAY I'm not chilling at home for a family thing after spending a week at college and now I'm gonna get off my lazy ass and talk about the awesomes. I've had a lot of ups and downs, generally due to my fluctuating mood, but overall I'm loving it here!
I live in Mercer Hall, one of the farthest on-campus dorms on the southwest side of campus. I have a double room that is actually fairly big, although my windows are spider infested on the outside so opening the blinds is scary. xD I also have a hole in my screen so I can't open the window. I think once winter gets going and the spiders die, I'll ask about getting it repaired. Pipes also run through my room, perfecting that trashy-New-York-apartment feeling and I love it lol.
My roommate is really nice, even if she doesn't like to leave the dorm very much. She loves horses and doesn't mind my anime obsession... hopefully. I don't think she appreciates yaoi at all, hahah... so as long as I keep that away from her I assume we'll be good friends~
I live on the third floor, and for some reason, it seems like people judge you if you use elevators, so I have the stairs.... like, everywhere. Even on the way to classes on the third or fourth floor, I take the stairs. I'm getting good exercise but damn those hills can be murder! Especially by my dorm, being so far south, all my classes are uphill or up stairs or both!
My classes are pretty nice so far, too! I have Women's studies, which is basically looking at gender and identity and how it affects society and whatever. It's actually really interesting, seeing how many things you do in your lie based on the notions of what you should do for your gender... I have lectures four days a week with 200 other people, and then a smaller group on Fridays that has discussions about the readings (its a lot of reading every week actually, but I don't mind because it's interesting~). BUT what I really love is the Syllabus we got for the class. The Syllabus outlines all the work we're doing for the class, the whole quarter... it's about 4 things. With weeks to do each. And they're simple. Seriously. The tests (only two...) make up a lot of the class, so during Finals I'll be studying a lot, likely. xD
My english class was also awesome, but main for the professor, who asked us to call him by his first name, Gibran (Hi-brahn). The first day, he totally faked us out. He came into class and started writing Spanish on the board and speaking in Spanish and we were like wut and he's all OHNOES THIS IZ WRONG CLASS. 3: and then started to go for the door before being all like "lol jk" and getting on with class. xD And then after he's all like: "Oh, and I saw the way you were all looking at me and being like "srsly?" You mother fuckers... nah just kidding. : D" He also, in general, curses like a sailor. I love college. xD The class is a focus on Film in the Mexican/US border, how it interprets women in film, and how it affects the community. The topic is kind of random, but should prove interesting! Plus we get to watch movies... win. I also only have this class twice a week!
My other class is only 2 credits and is with my FIG group, so the same 20-ish people I have in English and my smaller Women's studies group. I haven't actually had it yet, but our first assignment was to post introductions on a forum... seriously. Also, because it's the Women's Studies FIG, it's almost all girls... except for Mark. Poor Mark. xD
Maybe it's because I took so many hard classes in high school, but so far, college almost seems... easier. xD
I've also made attempts to get into two organizations on campus. One is the Anime Discovery project, which has free showings every Friday night of various anime and a small office in the HUB where various members just hang out. The showings don't start until next week, but I visited their office room! There were a lot of guys there, but soon enough more girls started to show up and it wasn't as awkward. xD;; I stayed there and watched some anime (HETALIA LOL) with them until I wanted to go eat some food.
But so far, I think I've made the most friends at the Q Center. It's basically their counseling room for GBLTQ students, but it can also serve as a hang out room, which is what I hope to use it for. I won tickets to a Cabaret show during Dawg Daze in Queer Bingo, so hopefully I can find someone there who either knows when/where it is, or wants to go with me. LoL guys dressed as sexy ladies. xD I just hope it's only 18+ and not 21+ or I won't be able to use them... that, and being on Capital Hill at night, I just hope it's safe even going up there, hahah... ;;;
WELL THAT'S COLLEGE. Hopefully it just gets better after this~! <3
